cold

If you are on the east coast right now, you're probably cold. It's been below 20 for the last couple of days, with a wind chill in the single digits. It is COLD. I guess if you're from Canada or Alaska you're rolling your eyes right now and going "poo poo, single digits, poo poo," but it's barely dropped below 40 for most of the winter this year and this feels absolutely frigid. Add in the fact that my workplace has no heat (that's right, NO HEAT), so I'm sitting here in t-shirt, a sweatshirt, a heavy coat, pants, thick knee socks, and boots, drinking my 4th cup of hot tea, and I can barely feel my toes. It's bad.

So of course I felt the need to doodle up what I feel like right now, which is pretty much like rigor mortis has set in. I've been having a lot of fun with color lately, trying to get out of the "normal realistic colors" box for everything. I like this palette and will be saving it for future use.

geekadelphia and a meta self-portrait

So! A few weeks ago I got an email from one of the awesome dudes over at Geekadelphia, a local Philly blog, asking if I'd like to be profiled for their Geek of the Week section. Of course I said yes, because my brain at least sort of works some of the time, and also I love them. I did the Q&A thing, which was fun but weird (I feel super awkward talking about myself), and when I sent my answers back I also sent them this self-portrait of a self-portrait to use along with it if they wanted to. They went with another piece, but since I believe in using all parts of the buffalo (what?), I figured I'd put it up here instead.

HEY GUYS. That's me. 80% of my wardrobe is plaid shirts. The other 20% is non-plaid shirts I never wear, because why would I ever.

If you want to read the Q&A, it's here. And if you are a geek and/or from -adelphia, you should be following them anyway because they rule.

self-portrait party time, part 2

Pretty self-explanatory. These are fun to do (since I am me, I find myself very easy to draw), and excellent little practice/warm up things. They get posted on flickr as well, but I like these two so I thought I'd share them here as well.

It's been 90+ here for the last week or so, and when it's that hot I am pretty much always wearing one of these two expressions. Sad or grossed out. I hate summer. Especially premature summer.

outfit drawings

So there's a bazillion people who take pictures of what they wear and post them to flickr groups like wardrobe remix (in addition to lookbook and outfit blogs and on and on), and I always like looking through them, but being perpetually camera shy and not particularly photogenic, I choose not to participate. But! There is also a flickr group for drawings of what you wear, which I can 150% get behind.

So whenever I have occasion to wear something cute, I like to do a little drawing and post it to flickr. I've never posted them here, but lately they've been proving to be an excellent way to practice my new style, so I thought I'd share a couple.

Outfit of dinner with my parents. I would kill a man to get to a basket of those spring rolls.

Outfit of Dr. Sketchy's. Also the outfit of the way too windy day where I kept having to forcibly hold my dress down. Poor decisions.

self-portrait party time

Just a little illustration to use in the bio section of my website. This is pretty much what I look like, if I ran myself through a super cute-ifying machine. Also, that is my very favorite necklace - a replica WWII hot air balloon pilot's medal. I loves it. My preciousss.

The sketch. I kind of like it better than the finished product.

this is my considering face.

I feel like it's been forever since I last posted, when in reality it's only been... 10 days, which is still kind of a long time. I haven't been drawing that much lately. And I haven't done anything digitally in ages. I have, however, spent an unnecessarily long time considering the possibility of a haircut. Et voilĂ .

Lessons learned: halftones are fun, frivolous decisions are hard, and I'm still way cuter as a cartoon.

me, more or less.

I wear this outfit a lot once it gets cool enough to break out the boots. Which it did on Monday, so I drew this in celebration while rocking said boots in the park.

"feh."

I'm in the midst of drawing a whole bunch of buildings for a job, so to keep myself from going crazy go nuts I took a little break to doodle something else. And that something else just so happened to end up being a little pink version of myself, complete with irritated facial expression. I'd say it pretty much sums up how I've been feeling lately.
