hook hand

It slices, dices, and juliennes. Pirates are busy, multi-tasking is key.

Original is 2.5'' x 3.5''.

rose

Original is 2.5''x3.5''. Tiny paintings are my favorite.

entanglement

I started this for one of the previous Illustration Friday themes, but didn't finish it in time. Woe. Now it's just blog fodder.

first snow

It snowed for the first time a few days ago. I love winter.

more swift creek mill illustrations

The other four from this year's set: Animal Farm, Just Gotta Sing, The Little Red Hen, and Santa's Candy Cane Christmas. Great fun to work on, as always!

magicadabra!

I just finished this year's batch of children's theater illustrations. I'm going to break my own rule and post my favorite one first. (Usually I'm a "save the best for last" kind of girl.)

Original is just over 6''x6'', ink and watercolor on hot press.

dr. sketchy's march session

So this month I finally made it to the Dr. Sketchy's session at the Fleisher Art Memorial. It was fun! A nice little chunk of time in which I HAD to draw. The verdict? My mad skillz are a little rusty. I was never particularly good at drawing from a live model - I'm not loose enough (short poses make me twitchy), and I have a hard time finding a balance between the stylized manner in which I usually draw and what I'm actually seeing in front of me. So I don't feel like I got anything particularly noteworthy out of the session, in terms of individual pieces, but it was good practice nonetheless. And the models and costumes were fantastic. I'll definitely try to make it next month.

Anyway. Out of the lot, these three are the only ones I really feel like showing the world. I'm not overly fond of the second one, but I feel like the first and third turned out okay for quick drawings.

alice in wonderland

Alice in Wonderland, done for my best friend's birthday. There are gold accents in the glass vial and on the books, but of course that doesn't translate to on-screen viewing.

2x the horribleness

Penny loves her froyo more than either guy.

(I really need to do a Captain Hammer one of these days.)

aceo: smells like cumin

Happy-go-lucky Act I Dr. Horrible. If only he knew...

8.19.2008

aceo: peace (not literally)

This is my 100th post here at Will Draw for Cookies, and what better way to celebrate than with some Dr. Horrible fan art? I have 5 of these so far - 4 Horrible, 1 Penny. I need to do a Captain Hammer sometime, but I just keep getting distracted by the good Doctor. He's my favorite and I <3 him.

8.18.2008

aceo: static

I'm quite fond of this one for some reason. Freckles! I think freckles are the most adorable things ever. I wish I had some.

8.15.2008

aceo: rorschach

Oops, I think my nerd is showing.

(I just finished Watchmen, I couldn't help myself.)

8.14.2008

aceo: again?

That's what I imagine her thinking. "Really, spider? We're doing this again?"

She is a braver woman than I. Me and spiders are un-mixy things. Give me your snakes, give me your mice, your rats... but please take your bugs and arachnids and go far, far away from me, please.

8.13.2008

aceo: hot (pink) pants

Pink! Pink and not red! Also a detour from the "frightened, big-eyed waif" category. Because I do draw other things sometimes, and occasionally they are naked ladies (okay, maybe more than occasionally), and when it comes to naked ladies, I don't so much go in for waif-like. Because I'm not, and neither is most of the rest of the world, and curvy girls are more fun to draw anyway. So there.

aceo: pulling strings

I really like this one. It's kind of creepy, I guess, but it also makes me laugh.

8.11.2008

aceo: yellow raincoat.

ACEO #2, also from yesterday. A bit of a deviation - yellow instead of red! I like it well enough, but I kind of wish I'd left off the socks.

Rain boots like that are one of my fondest wishes. One day...

aceo: wounded

So after a bunch of aborted painting attempts yesterday (so frustrating), I decided to try my hand at aceo's - as they're known around the intertubes. At least I think that's how they're known around the intertubes. Anyway! Tiny little 2.5'' x 3.5'' works of art.

Verdict? I love them. In the last 24 hours I've done 6. I like working small - kind of ridiculously small, I've been told - so these are perfect. Plus it's a great way to use up the seventy bazillion strips of scrap watercolor paper I have lying around.

This was the very first. Most of the rest are in the same vein - girls, hatching, limited color (mainly black and red, which should come as a surprise to absolutely no one). This is happy fun time art, after all. I have no issues retreating to my artistic comfort zone.

The other day I picked up a set of Staedtler pigment liners, which I broke in on this piece. I think I prefer them to microns. The only problem being that I've never seen them sold singly, and I run through .01 size pens at an alarming speed. Like right now I've got 5 .01 microns in my bag and they're all nearly dry. So unless I can find a source for the single pens, I'll be sticking with microns for my ocd hatching needs.

poof!

Getting in this week's Illustration Friday just under the wire. The word was, of course, "poof!"

I'll never understand why people insist on stripping dogs of their dignity this way. I mean, what are those hip poof things all about? What is that? They look like earmuffs.

children's theater finals

The final illustrations for the children's theater job. I'm mostly satisfied with how they came out. Bigger versions of at least 3 of them will go up in my portfolio shortly.
